Dr. Shannon Boustead is a family physician and addiction medicine specialist based in Bellingham, Washington. He has worked in community health for more than a decade, providing care to underserved populations with a particular focus on opioid use disorder and complex, co-occurring medical and social needs.
As a Community Engagement Physician with Boulder Care, Dr. Boustead supports clinical teams and contributes to the ongoing development of low-barrier, evidence-based models of addiction treatment. His work emphasizes strengthening the continuum of care—connecting outpatient treatment with hospitals, crisis services, recovery supports, and community partners—to reduce harm, prevent overdose, and improve long-term outcomes. He is also engaged in clinician advocacy, working with providers and community organizations to advance policies and systems that improve access to addiction treatment and recovery support.
Dr. Boustead practices at Sea Mar Community Health Centers and is actively involved in provider education, mentorship, and cross-sector collaboration at the local and state level. He completed a one-year obstetrics fellowship at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle and served as Chief Resident in the Swedish Family Medicine Residency. He earned his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and a degree in Human Biology from Stanford University, graduating with honors.
Outside of work, Dr. Boustead values time with his wife and two children, reading, and exploring the forests of the Pacific Northwest.
